HC Deb 08 December 1931 vol 260 cc1668-9
22. Mr. ALBERY

asked the Secretary for Mines the value of refined petroleum products imported into this country during 1930, and the value of refined petroleum products produced in this country for the same period?

Mr. ISAAC FOOT

The declared value of the refined liquid petroleum products imported into this country during 1930 amounted to £42,160,187, according to the published trade returns. Home-produced and home-refined petroleum productions were about equal to 30 per cent. of the quantity of the imported products. I am unable to give an accurate figure for the value of the home produced and home refined products, but it would represent less than 30 per cent. of the value of the imported.

Mr. ALBERY

Are the Government considering the imposition of a duty on these products to facilitate regaining the trade balance?

Mr. FOOT

That does not arise on this question.
