HC Deb 07 December 1931 vol 260 c1502
19. Captain P. MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in considering fresh legislation dealing with agriculture to be introduced after the Christmas Recess, he will take into account the necessity for immediate relief being given to farmers in respect of tithe rentcharge?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Sir John Gilmour)

As I have already informed my hon. and gallant Friend, I do not contemplate the introduction of legislation relieving property owners from their liability to tithe rentcharge.

Captain MACDONALD

Is the committee set up by the right hon. Gentleman's predecessor still in being, and, if so, when may we expect a report?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No, Sir. It is not.

Mr. HARRIS

Will the right hon. Gentleman reconstitute the committee so that we may have some report?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No, Sir. I see no reason for doing so.
