HC Deb 07 December 1931 vol 260 cc1506-7
22. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will take steps to require the staining of foreign clover seed imported into this country?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Fresh legislation would be necessary to require the staining of seeds, which I am not at present prepared to promise to introduce. The Regulations made under the Seeds Act, 1920, already provide that the country of origin shall be stated on the sale of clover seeds, and although the situation has been carefully watched, there is no evidence that misrepresentation on this point is taking place to any material extent. The matter will, however, continue to receive special attention during the coming season.
