HC Deb 07 December 1931 vol 260 cc1497-8
45. Sir A. KNOX

asked the Prime Minister if he will consider the possibility of setting up a small fiscal council to consider applications from producers for Protection and to make recommendations to the President of the Board of Trade or the Chancellor of the Exchequer?

46. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of setting up a tariff commission at the earliest opportunity with a view to evolving a system of scientific tariff protection for Great Britain?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Ramsay MacDonald)

I have noted the suggestion put forward by my hon. and gallant Friends.

Captain MACDONALD

Is it not a fact that the setting up of such a commission was part of the policy enunciated by at least one of the leaders of the National Government?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have noted the suggestion.

Sir A. KNOX

Will the right hon. Gentleman discuss this policy with the Lord President of the Council, who constantly recommended it?

Mr. MORGAN JONES

And also with the Lord Privy Seal?

The PRIME MINISTER

We are in constant communication.
