HC Deb 07 December 1931 vol 260 c1523
75. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fluctuations in sterling caused by small day-to-day transactions, he will consider an early restoration of free dealings in forward exchange?

Major ELLIOT

I would refer the right hon. Member to the reply given to my right hon. and gallant Friend the Member for the Ripon Division (Major Hills) on Thursday last.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware of the unanimous opinion there is in the exchange in favour of this reform, and why has it been postponed?

Major ELLIOT

I am afraid that I cannot add anything to the answer previously given.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Will there he any chance of getting this ridiculous imposition stopped before the House meets again, and shall we have any change of policy before 2nd February?
