HC Deb 03 December 1931 vol 260 c1249
76. Lieut.-Colonel MAYHEW

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will now consider reimposing the duty on foreign-grown tea?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am unable to make any statement on this subject at present.

Lieut.-Colonel MAYHEW

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that nearly every Empire tea company has been affected by the removal of the tax on foreign tea, and that not only have profits disappeared, but heavy losses have been incurred by the shareholders?
