HC Deb 02 December 1931 vol 260 cc1069-70
23. Lieut. - Colonel Sir MERVYN MANNINGHAM-BULLER

asked the Minister of Transport whether it is his intention to revise in the near future the Regulations issued under the Road Traffic Act, 1930, governing the speed limits of heavy motor vehicles; and whether he will take into account the necessity for imposing special limits on such vehicles proceeding through urban areas, in view of the damage caused to buildings through vibration set up by their passing at high speeds?

Mr. PYBUS

I have under consideration the question whether the First Schedule to the Road Traffic Act should be amended with the view mainly of reducing the number of different speed limits which it imposes. I have no power, however, to make a Regulation imposing special speed limits on heavy motor vehicles when passing through urban areas in general.
