HC Deb 30 April 1931 vol 251 cc1888-9
The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Lansbury)

I beg to move, in page 9, line 8, to leave out the word "notice," and to insert instead thereof, the word "document."

There are altogether three small Amendments which I wish to move. With regard to the present Amendment. hon. Members who have the Bill in front of them will see that in the first line of the Clause we use the word "document." It would be absurd to have the word "document" in one part of the Clause and the word "notice" in another part, and that is why I move the deletion of the word "notice" in order to insert the word "document."

Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

There is a good deal of difference between the meaning of the words "notice" and "document," but I understand that the word "document" in this case is meant to imply that it is a notice of a particular kind to the "owner" or "occupier" of a monument. I take it that that is the position.

Mr. LANSBURY

Yes.

Mr. WILLIAMS

I think we ought to have a formal legal opinion on the matter in order to clarify the position.

Mr. LANSBURY

The learned Attorney-General agrees that that is so.

Amendment agreed to.
