HC Deb 27 April 1931 vol 251 c1373
68. Mr. HERRIOTTS

asked the Secretary for Mines what was the average selling price of coal exports for the years 1929 and 1930, respectively, and also the export price for the quarter ended 31st March, 1931?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Shinwell)

The average declared value f.o.b. of all coal exported during 1929 was 16s. 2d., and during 1930 16s. 8d. Comparison with the quarter ended 31st March, 1931, is affected by the dispute in January, in South Wales, resulting in the export of a smaller proportion of the higher-priced anthracite and steam coal, but during the two months ended 31st March, 1931, the corresponding figure was 16s. 2d.
