HC Deb 22 April 1931 vol 251 cc959-60
18. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is proposed to convert His Majesty's Ship "Iron Duke" into a training ship for boys at Devonport?

Mr. AMMON

There is no intention of using His Majesty's Ship "Iron Duke" as a training ship for boys at Devonport. The ship is being retained under the terms of the London Naval Treaty as a gunnery training ship. Work of demilitarisation will commence in three months' time, after which she will be taken in hand at Devonport for conversion to her new service, probably before the end of the current calendar year.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is she to be a sea-going training ship or a harbour training ship?

Mr. AMMON

Sea-going.
