HC Deb 21 April 1931 vol 251 c776
14. Sir K. WOOD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is engaged in any further negotiations with a view to securing reductions in European customs tariffs; and if he can state the results to date?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

I would refer the right hon. Gentleman to the reply which I gave last Tuesday to the hon. Member for Moseley (Mr. Harmon), of which I am sending him a copy. To this I should, however, add that in addition to the replies therein referred to a reply has now been received from the Government of Austria.

Sir K. WOOD

Is the right hon. Gentleman having regard to the cost of all these negotiations and the very large sum of money which is lost to the nation by his last efforts?

Mr. GRAHAM

I do not agree with the right hon. Gentleman. Any outlay will be infinitesimal compared with the advantages that may be derived.
