HC Deb 16 April 1931 vol 251 c346
44. Mr. O. LEWIS

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware that at the current price for wheat most arable farmers in this country cannot pay the minimum rates of wages prescribed by law out of the proceeds of the men's labour; and what proposals he intends to lay before Parliament this Session to remedy the difficulty?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Dr. Addison)

I am aware of the difficulties of arable farmers, but I am not yet in a position to make a statement on the Government's cereal policy.

Sir ARTHUR STEEL-MAITLAND

When will the right hon. Gentleman be in a position to make a statement, as just before the Recess he promised one almost immediately?

Dr. ADDISON

I cannot name a date at present.
