HC Deb 16 April 1931 vol 251 cc333-4
13. Mr. CAMPBELL

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that, at the instance of the mobile police, several summonses for obstruction in the streets by motor cars have been brought before the Courts in Bromley, Bent, and that the majority have been dismissed; and whether he will give instructions to allow greater latitude in the interest of shoppers and shopkeepers alike?

Mr. CLYNES

There is little I can add to my replies on the 2nd instant. I can assure the hon. Member that all reasonable consideration will be shown for the interests of shoppers and shopkeepers, but High Street, Bromley, is an important main road carrying heavy traffic, and if that traffic is obstructed by waiting cars it is the duty of the police to intervene.

Mr. CAMPBELL

Is the Home Secretary prepared to receive a deputation from the local people to discuss this matter?

Mr. CLYNES

It might be better, in the first instance, if my hon. Friend would discuss the subject with me, and I shall be very happy to meet him.
