HC Deb 16 April 1931 vol 251 c347
52. Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will take steps to provide that in addition to the other conditions the National Mark shall only in future be used in respect of articles or produce in the production of which guaranteed conditions as to wages and hours of the workers employed are observed?

Dr. ADDISON

I am advised that I am not entitled to attach to the right to use the National Mark conditions such as those suggested in the hon. Member's question. The wages and hours of producers of raw agricultural produce are regulated under the Agricultural Wages Act. The wages and conditions of the canning industry are regulated by a trade board under the Trade Boards Acts and the Ministry of Labour has no evidence which suggests that the conditions in the meat, flour, malt products or cider manufacturing trade call for the application of the Trade Boards Acts.
