HC Deb 16 April 1931 vol 251 c328
2. Mr. OSWALD LEWIS

asked the Minister of Labour if she will state how many cases have been brought to her notice of coal trimmers earning up to £5 a day during two or three days in a week claiming and obtaining unemployment benefit in respect of the other days in the week on which they have not been at work?

Miss BONDFIELD

Statistical information regarding such cases is not available.

Mr. LEWIS

Can the Minister tell the House whether, in any such cases brought to her notice, it has been made easier for these men to obtain unemployment benefit since the legislation introduced by the present Government?

Miss BONDFIELD

No, Sir. That makes no difference.
