HC Deb 15 April 1931 vol 251 c178
36. Mr. HACKING

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give the value of imports from Soviet Russia and of British exports to Soviet Russia during the first three months of this year?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. W. R. Smith)

Figures for the three months are not yet available but during the first two months of this year the declared value of the imports into the United Kingdom registered as consigned from the Soviet Union was £3,676,951. During the same two months the exports of United Kingdom goods to the Soviet. Union were £926,093, and re-exports £296,834.

Mr. HACKING

Is it not a fact that with these enormous credit balances in London the Soviet Government are purchasing foreign goods which could be purchased in this country

Mr. HAYCOCK

Does the right hon. Gentleman think that questions like that will help us to get more orders?
