HC Deb 15 April 1931 vol 251 cc176-7
29. Mr. OSWALD LEWIS

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what export credits have been granted in respect of goods consigned to Brazil since 1st January, 1931?

Mr. GILLETT (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

From the 28th December, 1930, to the 11th April last, the Export Credits Guarantee Department entered into contracts covering credits for £18,559 in respect of exports to Brazil. Its liability on these contracts was limited to £11,936.

Mr. LEWIS

Having regard to the fact that the hon. Gentleman's Department has already lost a large sum of public money in export credits to Brazil, will he consider the question of limiting credits to that country in the future?

Mr. GILLETT

I am quite satisfied to leave the decision in that matter to the advisory committee.
