HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 c177
8. Captain MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Labour what has been the increase in unemployment since the beginning of the Parliamentary Recess; and whether any fresh steps have been taken during that period by the Government to reduce the number of the unemployed

Miss BONDFIELD

Between 11th August and 20th October there was an increase of 148,551 in the numbers on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain, including 116,028 males and 32,523 females. As regards the second part of the question, perhaps the hon. and gallant Member will await the reply which will be given by the Prime Minister later to-day.

Captain MACDONALD

Is this the Government's only reply to the question: How is unemployment going to be solved?
