HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 cc212-3
Mr. STANLEY BALDWIN

May I ask the Prime Minister what the business will be next week?

The PRIME MINISTER

The debate on the Address will be continued on Monday, when the Opposition Amendment on the Paper will be taken, and it is hoped that the debate will be brought to a conclusion on Tuesday night.

Wednesday will be devoted to Private Members' Motions.

Thursday, Second Reading of the Education (School Attendance) Bill.

Friday will be the first day for Private Members Bills. On any day, should time permit, other Orders may be taken.

Mr. BALDWIN

I suppose from what the Prime Minister has said, it is understood that we have two days for the official Opposition Amendment.

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that to be so. I have been watching the Order Paper for indications that might militate against that, hut I have not seen them. I hope that on Tuesday night we shall finish with the Opposition Amendment, and that the debate will end.

Mr. MAXTON

May I ask the Prime Minister if that means that there will be no opportunity for any Amendment other than that of the official Opposition?

The PRIME MINISTER

There are no Amendments on the Paper of any substance, and in the course of the general debate a number of miscellaneous subjects can very adequately be raised.

Mr. MAXTON

Will there be no opportunity for any Amendment other than the official Opposition Amendment?

The PRIME MINISTER

No; I wish the debate to end, if the House of Commons agrees, on Tuesday next.

Mr. LAMBERT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when he proposes to introduce the agricultural legislation?

The PRIME MINISTER

That will be announced in due course—probably next week, but I cannot say now.
