HC Deb 29 October 1930 vol 244 cc38-9
Sir W. DAVISON

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department What is the total amount of credit guaranteed to date by His Majesty's Government to the Russian Soviet Republic under the Export Credits (Facilities) Act?

Mr. GILLETT (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

The total amount of contracts entered into up to 25th October under the Export Credits Guarantee Scheme in respect of exports to Russia was £4,803,691, on which the liability of His Majesty's Government was £2,882,515.

Sir W. DAVISON

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether the attention of the Committee dealing with these credits has been drawn to the fact of the repudiation recently by the Soviet Government of the award in the Lena Goldfields arbitration?

Mr. GILLETT

I have no doubt that all the facts are well known to the members of the Committee.

Sir F. HALL

What security have the Government for the £2,800,000?

Mr. GILLETT

I must ask the hon. and gallant Member to give me notice of that question.

Sir F. HALL

I will put it down.
