HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 cc1498-9
88. Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

asked the Minister of Health what number of houses have been improved in the county of Hertford under the Housing (Rural Workers) Act, 1926, in each year since the passing of the Act; and what number of applications for the purpose or now outstanding?

Mr. GREENWOOD

Two houses were so dealt with in 1928 and seven in 1929. Work on two houses was in progress at 30th September last, and was still to commence on two more. No further applications were then before the council.

Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

In cases where county councils have delegated their powers to district councils and these councils have done nothing, will the right hon. Gentleman draw the attention of county councils to the fact and urge that they should resume action themselves under the Act?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I have taken every possible step in order to get local authorities to work the Act.

Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

But if county councils have delegated their powers to district councils, and they do nothing, cannot the right hon. Gentleman ask county councils to consider resuming action under the Act?
