HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 c1468
11. Sir ARTHUR STEEL-MAITLAND

asked the Minister of Labour the average number of persons in the building trades registered as unemployed during the year ended 30th September last?

Miss BONDFIELD

During the 12 months ended 22nd September, 1930, the average number of insured persons, classified as belonging to the building industry, recorded as unemployed in Great Britain was 121,761.

Sir KINGSLEY WOOD

Is it true that while these figures are up the housing figures are down?

Miss BONDFIELD

That question should be addressed to another Department.

Viscountess ASTOR

Is it not a fact that the Minister of Health said that there was no reason why a single person should be unemployed in the building trade?
