HC Deb 17 November 1930 vol 245 c14
22. Mr. L'ESTRANGE MALONE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the China Arms Embargo Agreement of 5th May, 1919 has been cancelled; when this cancellation took place; and what was the reason for it?

Mr. DALTON

The Arms Embargo Agreement was cancelled on the 26th of April, 1929. The reason for the cancellation was that nearly all the Powers party to the Agreement had recognised the National Government as the Government of China, and in the Agreement it was stipulated that it was to last "until the establishment of a Government whose authority is recognised throughout the whole country."
