HC Deb 13 November 1930 vol 244 cc1834-5
74. Dr. MORRIS-JONES

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the representations and complaints addressed to him from numerous ratepayers in Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay, with regard to a portion of the seafront known as the Marine Drive, and in view of the fact that the local authority has lately been in negotiation with his Department regarding the problem, and in view of the present unemployment in the area, he will expedite negotiations with other Government Departments involved, with a view to a scheme of work being commenced this winter?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Mr. Arthur Greenwood)

Consultations have already taken place with the Departments concerned, and in the result a letter has been addressed to the local authority from whom I am awaiting a reply.

Dr. MORRIS-JONES

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that while the Government on the one hand are asking local authorities to expedite local works individual Government Departments on the other hand are placing obstacles in the way of local authorities getting on with the work?

Mr. GREENWOOD

No, in this particular case that is not so. The difficulty arises because of financial and legal objections which I am hoping to clear away.

Dr. MORRIS-JONES

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman to try and expedite this matter?

Mr. GREENWOOD

Certainly.
