HC Deb 13 November 1930 vol 244 c1847
67. Mr. EDE

asked the Minister of Health what action the Godstone Rural District Council have taken since 11th August, 1930, in dealing with the housing short-age of working-class housing accommodation in Oxted, Surrey; and what action he contemplates taking in view of the housing conditions prevailing in this parish?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I am awaiting a report from the council as to recent developments in this matter.

Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

Did not the right hon. Gentleman promise at the last election to do something in regard to this matter?

Mr. EDE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this local authority has been constantly defying his Department? When is he going to do anything?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I do not accept that statement for one moment. It happens to be a rural district council which has built, proportionately, more houses than most.
