HC Deb 13 November 1930 vol 244 cc1857-8
92. Mr. SHAKESPEARE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether there has been further correspondence with the French Government in respect of British holders of French war bonds?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Pethick-Lawrence)

No further correspondence has taken place. The reply recently received from the French Government is under consideration.

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

Does the Financial Secretary realise that in the effort to get a square deal for these bondholders the Chancellor of the Exchequer has the whole country behind him?

Mr. WALLHEAD

What was the value of the pound at the time these bonds were subscribed?
