HC Deb 13 November 1930 vol 244 cc1849-50
64. Mr. ALBERY

asked the Minister of Health if he proposes to impose any further restrictions and safeguards on the issue of birth certificates?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I am not clear what the hon. Member has in mind as regards safeguards or restrictions, but I may observe that every member of the public is entitled by law to obtain on payment of the statutory fees a certified copy of any entry in the birth register; and I know of no grounds for imposing any restrictions upon those facilities.

Mr. ALBERY

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware of the fact that recently birth certificates have been obtained for an improper purpose? Might I suggest that the Home Secretary and himself should take stops to deal with the matter?

Mr. GREENWOOD

If the hon. Member will give me cases, I will consider them with my right hon. Friend.
