§ 67. Viscount CRANBORNEasked the President of the Board of Education whether he has received a copy of a resolution of the county education committee of the Dorset County Council, protesting against the refusal of the Board of Education to give an increased grant in aid of the cost of conveyance of school children under the Hadow scheme; and whether he proposes to give such assistance?
§ Sir C. TREVELYANI have not received a copy of the resolution to which the hon. Member refers. I am not at present satisfied that the percentage rate 1033 of grant in respect of expenditure on the conveyance of children should be increased.
§ Viscount CRANBORNEDo I understand from the right hon. Gentleman's reply that there are not sufficient funds available to administer the existing law?
§ Sir C. TREVELYANI think the local authorities get a very large part of the cost from the State through the Estimates.
§ Captain GUNSTONHas the right hon. Gentleman seen a resolution from many county councils asking for an increased grant?
§ Sir C. TREVELYANYes, I have had a good many.
§ Lieut. - Colonel ACLAND - TROYTEIs the right hon. Gentleman not aware that these grants are totally inadequate, and cause very great hardship?
