HC Deb 03 November 1930 vol 244 cc454-5
20. Sir NICHOLAS GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will lay upon the Table of the House the communications which have passed respecting the proposals of the Government to foreign powers on the subject of laying wreaths on war memorials?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

If it is the general desire of the House, I shall be quite prepared to publish this correspondence, when completed, as a White Paper, provided that the other Governments concerned have no objection.

21. Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Government acted on its own initiative in making proposals respecting the laying of wreaths on war memorials, or in response to representations made to it on the matter?

22. Captain GUNSTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has sent any instruction to His Majesty's representatives abroad concerning the laying of wreaths on war memorials; and, if so, will he inform the House the nature of those instructions?

16. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has issued, or intends to issue, instructions to British representatives abroad not to lay wreaths or place other tributes upon war memorials in the foreign countries to which they are accredited?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

I would refer the hon. Members to the reply given by the Prime Minister on the 29th of October to the hon. and gallant Member for Dulwich (Sir F. Hall) on this subject. No instructions, other than those mentioned by the Prime Minister, have been sent to His Majesty's Representatives abroad.
