HC Deb 28 May 1930 vol 239 c1283
32. Colonel GRETTON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs when the report of the Irish Grants Committee will be laid and published?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Lunn)

As I intimated in reply to a question by the hon. and gallant Member for Howdenshire (Major Carver) on the 5th February, it is not proposed to publish the report of the Irish Grants Committee on its work.

Colonel GRETTON

As the Government have paid, on the advice of this Committee, very large sums of the taxpayers' money, is not Parliament entitled to a report as to how the money has been expended, and will the Government consider the matter?

Mr. LUNN

I am quite aware that a large sum of the taxpayers' money was used in this direction, but it was on the understanding that the report which was prepared and submitted would not be published by the Wood Renton Committee. That was my answer to the hon. and gallant Member for Howdenshire in February. The matter was not raised when the Supplementary Estimate was before the House on the 6th March, and it is not intended now to publish the report.
