HC Deb 28 May 1930 vol 239 c1274
13. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what will be the total cost of the cruiser, flotilla leader, destroyers and submarines of the original 1929 programme which it is now proposed to proceed with; and whether supplementary estimates for the cost of building these ships are to be presented to Parliament?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. A. V. Alexander)

The estimated total cost of the cruiser, flotilla leader, four destroyers and three submarines of the 1929 programme is approximately £4,200,000. Provision for expenditure on all these ships except the submarines is included in the Navy Estimates, 1930, and the question of a supplementary estimate in respect of them does not arise. The question of the provision necessary in a supplementary estimate for the expenditure on the submarines is being considered, and an announcement will be made at the appropriate time.

Sir BERTRAM FALLE

Are the Government going on with their original programme?

Mr. ALEXANDER

I think I have answered that question many times during the last few weeks.
