HC Deb 26 May 1930 vol 239 c809
48. Viscount WOLMER

asked the Prime Minister whether he will now publish for the information of the House the memorandum on unemployment submitted by the hon. Member for Smethwick?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

No, Sir. The Government do not intend to publish this or any other similar document.

Viscount WOLMER

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think that it would be most valuable to the House to have this most important contribution towards solving this problem?

Mr. SNOWDEN

That, of course, is a matter of opinion. As I stated in reply to the question on the Paper, we do not intend to publish it, because it would create a most undesirable precedent if private Cabinet documents were published.

Sir K. WOOD

Can the right hon. Gentleman induce his hon. Friend to make a full statement on the matter next Wednesday?

Mr. SNOWDEN

Perhaps the right hon. Gentleman might have quite as much influence as I have.
