HC Deb 22 May 1930 vol 239 cc575-6
60. Mr. HARRIS

asked the Minister of Health when he proposes to introduce his Bill carrying out the recommendations of the Royal Commission on London Squares; and is he aware of the urgency of the question, seeing that some property owners are anticipating legislation by selling for building purposes many of these squares?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I had hoped to introduce a Bill on this subject this Session, but, in view of the pressure of other business, I fear it may not now be possible to do so. I have no information on the point raised in the last part of the hon. Member's question.

Mr. HARRIS

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that all parties in the House are agreed about the urgency of this matter, owing to the amount of building on these open spaces, and could not we have this Bill brought in this Session as an agreed Measure?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I am not satisfied that the Bill would be non-controversial.

Mr. HARRIS

Could the right hon. Gentleman not satisfy himself on that point by introducing the Bill, so that we could see what the position is?

Sir K. WOOD

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how many Bills he has promised to introduce in this House, and how many he has failed to introduce?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I think I have introduced all of them, except this particular one.
