HC Deb 20 May 1930 vol 239 cc198-9
23. Mr. MILLAR

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total acreage of sugar-beet contracted for during the present year by the Second Anglo- Scottish Beet Sugar Corporation, Limited, for delivery to their factory at Cupar, Fife; the subsidy payable thereon; and the price payable to the growers?

Mr. W. ADAMSON

1,908 acres have been contracted for by the company mentioned. It is impossible to estimate the total subsidy payable until the crop has been lifted and the quantity of beets ascertained. The rate of subsidy payable is prescribed in the First Schedule to the Act. The prices payable by the company to the growers for each ton of topped and washed beet delivered into the factory will be 46s. for beet having a sugar content of 15½ per cent., 49s. for beet having a sugar content of 16½ per cent. with a further addition of 3s. 4d. for each subsequent 1 per cent. increase in sugar content.
