HC Deb 20 May 1930 vol 239 cc215-6
55. Major GRAHAM POLE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the standard rates of wages for Indian labourers agreed upon by the Government of India and the authorities in Malaya for the two different areas in the country and already brought into force in the province of Wellesley and the inland districts of Pahang, which were selected as the key districts representing the two classes of areas, are now being extended to the corresponding districts in the rest of Malaya?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Dr. Drummond Shiels)

In addition to the areas men- tioned, standard rates of wages for Indian labourers have during 1929 come into force for certain districts of Selangor and Kelantan and for the State of Brunei, and have been adopted generally for labourers employed by Government Departments in Malaya.
