HC Deb 19 May 1930 vol 239 cc35-6
78. Mr. LEE

asked the Secretary for Mines whether his Department are receiving any complaints from collieries that have coal-cutting and coal-carrying machines respecting the long hours men are being compelled to stay at their usual and ordinary work; and whether his Department have issued any instructions that countenance such longer shifts and the return to work at less than the usual break between the shifts?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Ben Turner)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative and to the latter part in the negative. I beg to refer my hon. Friend to the numerous answers which I have already given on this subject, and particularly to the hon. Member for Rossendale on 10th March and the hon. Member for Ince (Mr. G. Macdonald) on 8th April.
