§ 43. Mr. FREEMANasked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the desirability of withholding licences for further experiments on living animals which have been proved over a long perod of time to have failed to reduce the mortality figures, as in the case of cancer?
§ Mr. CLYNESThe answer is in the negative. Having regard to the amount of suffering and the mortality caused by cancer, I could not take the responsibility of a general refusal to grant licences for experiments bearing on cancer which are recommended by the scientific authorities under the Act.
