HC Deb 15 May 1930 vol 238 cc2045-6
57. Duchess of ATHOLL

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he can now supplement the figures previously given by him on the basis of 104 programmes submitted by local education authorities, and state how many additional teachers, as shown by the programmes received to date, are likely to be required in the years 1930–31, 1931–32, and 1932–33?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

Of the programmes so far received 180 contain estimates of the additional teachers required during the programme period to meet the needs of normal expansion and the raising of the school age. They anticipate a need for 1,396 additional teachers in 1930–31, rising to 5,718 in 1931–32 and to 8,504 in 1932–33. I shall be prepared to make a full statement in regard to the total number of additional teachers required for the whole country when the Bill is before the House.
