asked the Home Secretary whether he has sanctioned the increase of the salary of the clerk of the peace for Staffordshire from £2,000 to £2,500?

The present position is as stated in my reply to the hon. Member's question on the 6th instant.

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the gentleman to whom the question refers has at least six other jobs, and that his present—

On a point of Order. The question I wish to ask has a distinct bearing upon whether the right hon. Gentleman should or should not sanction the appointment.
