HC Deb 06 May 1930 vol 238 c760
63. Mr. MANDER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what major appointments have been given to nationals of England, France, Germany, Italy, and the United States on the staff of the International Bank; and whether the Government have used their influence to see that this country is adequately represented in the personnel of the bank?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

I understand that the board of the Bank for International Settlements are at present organising the staff of the bank, but I have no special information on the matter; the bank is a commercial and non-political institution, and there is no question of Government intervention in regard to the appointment of its staff.

Mr. MANDER

Are not the Governments of France and Germany exercising a great deal of pressure in the interests of their own country, and cannot the British Government do the same?
