HC Deb 06 May 1930 vol 238 c729
2. Sir A. SINCLAIR

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is yet in a position to state when Part I of the Agricultural Credits (Scotland) Act, 1929, will be brought into operation?

Mr. W. ADAMSON

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to my reply of 29th April to the hon. and gallant Member for Banff (Major Wood).

Sir A. SINCLAIR

Surely, we can have some decision on this vitally important question soon? If the banks will not support the right hon. Gentleman, is it not possible for his own Government to come forward and finance this scheme? Is he not aware that it is urgently required in Scotland?

Mr. ADAMSON

I can assure the hon. and gallant Member that I am just as anxious as he is that the matter should be disposed of, and I have tried more than one source.

Mr. SKELTON

Will the right hon. Gentleman undertake, if the banks will not assist, to bring in an alternative scheme at an early date?

Mr. ADAMSON

I can assure my hon. Friend that I have tried all that I can.

Sir A. SINCLAIR

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when it is likely that we shall have any news in regard to this matter, because it is a matter of great importance to Scotland?

Mr. SKELTON

Are we to understand that the alternative schemes have also broken down?

Mr. ADAMSON

I have already said so.
