§ 2. Mr. MANDERasked the Minister of Labour if the Government is prepared to 574 consider the appointment of a committee to inquire into the conditions of domestic service, with a view to making recommendations for improving its status and rendering it generally more attractive?
§ Miss BONDFIELDThere is a report on this subject, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy, by a committee appointed in 1923. I do not think there would be any advantage in appointing another committee at the present time.
§ Mr. MANDERIs the right hon. Lady prepared to reconsider the matter if she is satisfied that public opinion is taking a very deep interest in it?
§ Miss BONDFIELDI will certainly consider any suggestion of that kind.
§ Mr. SANDERSIs there not sufficient evidence to show that, where hours are reasonable, wages fair and conditions good, there is no difficulty in getting domestic servants?
