§ 33. Mr. PYBUS(for Mr. MANDER) asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will use such opportunities as may present themselves to encourage the Hejaz to apply for membership to the League of Nations?
Mr. A. HENDERSONThe Hejaz appears in the list of states described as original members of the League of Nations given in Part I of the annex to the Covenant of the League. None of the treaties containing the Covenant having been ratified by the Hejaz, the admission of that State to original membership of the League thus provided for has not yet taken effect. The question whether the present King of the Hejaz should adopt a different attitude towards this matter from that adopted by his predecessor is one which only His Majesty and his Government can decide.
