HC Deb 17 March 1930 vol 236 cc1709-10
60. Mr. HOPKIN

asked the Attorney-General whether, in view of the expense attending actions in the High Court and, in particular, of enforcing judgments there, the Government will consider the desirability of extending the present limit of the County Court jurisdiction?

The SOLICITOR-GENERAL (Sir James Melville)

The question where the line should be drawn between the jurisdiction of the High Court and County Court is difficult, and bas received consideration on many occasion. I do not think that there is at present any general desire for a change or that the time is ripe for inquiring into the subject.

Mr. BECKETT

Is my hon. and learned Friend aware that a good many opinions have been expressed in public Courts lately as to the expense of legal proceedings, and is there no way of reducing expenses generally?
