asked the Minister of Labour what was the highest and lowest weekly figure of unemployment during the period October, 1924, to June, 1929; and what is the highest and lowest weekly figure since that date?

Miss BONDFIELD

Between October, 1924, and June, 1929, the highest number of persons on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain was 1,645,070 at 5th July, 1926, while the lowest was 978,176 at 23rd May, 1927. Between June, 1929, and 3rd March, 1930, the highest figure recorded was 1,547,217 at 3rd March, 1930, and the lowest 1,100,125 at 3rd June, 1929.
