§ 26. Captain PETER MACDONALDasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is now in a position to state what arrangements have been made to secure the position of British officials in the service of the Iraq railways?
§ Dr. SHIELSI am not at present in a position to add anything to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member on the 20th of March last. The matter is still the subject of active negotiation.
§ Mr. AMERYCan the Under-Secretary of State give us any indication of the possible date when the matter may be settled? These officials have now been waiting for a very long time.
§ Dr. SHIELSYes, Sir, they have been waiting a long time. They were waiting before the present Government came into office. We are pressing these negotiations very actively, and I am glad to say that we have some reason to hope that a settlement of the matter will not be long delayed.
