HC Deb 19 June 1930 vol 240 cc563-4
34. Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

asked the Home Secretary the number of local authorities which have forwarded him resolutions suggesting that borough, county and district councillors should be exempted from jury service; and whether he proposes to take any action in this matter?

The number is large, but I have not had time to ascertain it exactly. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to my reply to a similar question by the hon. and gallant Member for the Maldon Division (Lieut.-Colonel Ruggles-Brise) on the 6th March last.

Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

May I ask if the Home Secretary is giving this matter consideration, in view of the anxiety of the local authorities?

The matter is under consideration, but, as I have declared previously, I am not able to encourage the hope of early legislation.
