§ 41. Mr. DOUGLAS HACKINGasked the Minister of Transport whether he is yet in a position to state the results of the tests which have been carried out in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory on the resistance to skidding exerted by various road surfaces; and whether any test sections of various types of surfacing materials have yet been laid down?
§ Mr. HERBERT MORRISONA description of these tests will be found in the Road Fund Report for 1928–29, and further reference will be made to them in the Report for the year 1929–30, which is now in course of preparation. I propose to have test sections of various types of surfacing materials laid down during the present year.
§ Mr. HACKINGWhen these sections are laid down, will the hon. Gentleman inform the House, so that certain hon. Members who desire to do so, may carry out experiments themselves?
§ Mr. MORRISONIf it is practicable, it will be done.
§ Mr. EDEIs it proposed to have the laying down of these sections supervised by the skilled staff of the National Physical Laboratory, and the experiments watched by them?
§ Mr. MORRISONAs the House knows, the Ministry have an experimental laboratory in Middlesex, and it is there, I think, that these experiments are being conducted and in conducting them we are in touch with the staff of the National Laboratory.
