HC Deb 18 June 1930 vol 240 c388
30. Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he proposes to invite a joint select committee of both Houses of Parliament to examine and report on the Government's new proposals for native policy and closer union in East Africa before proceeding to recommend the issue of Orders in Council or Colonial legislation to give effect to them?

Dr. SHIELS

I would refer the right hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Chertsey (Sir P. Richardson) on the 21st May. The position is as there stated, except that it has now been found convenient to present the Command Paper with the conclusions of His Majesty's Government regarding closer union in East Africa to-morrow evening instead of the 20th June as previously contemplated.

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Will it be published in East Africa at the same time?
