Mr. WARDLAW-MILNEasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is proposed to make permanent the appointment of the present acting first secretary to the residency at Cairo; and, if so, whether it is intended to allow this official to remain in the pay of the Egyptian Government, while other British officials at the residency are paid by the British Government?
Mr. A. HENDERSONThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The officer to whom the hon. Member refers is no longer in the employment of the Egyptian Government, but is paid by His Majesty's Government as a temporary member of the staff of the British High Commissioner.
